The Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG) is a federal institution of higher education level of teaching and research, associated with the Ministry of Education. It was created on December 14, 1960 through the merger of five higher education institutions then existing in Goiânia: the School of Law, the School of Pharmacy and Dentistry, the Central Brazil Engineering School, the Music Conservatory and the School of Medicine. UFG as it is today reflects an administrative and academic restructuring carried out in 1996 and includes 29 academic units and offers 40 undergraduate programs, 31 master programs and 13 doctoral programs covering the following areas: Humanities, Applied Social Sciences, Linguistics, Arts and Letters, Exact and Earth Sciences, Engineering, Biological Sciences, Agricultural Sciences and Health Sciences.
UFG’s objective is to produce, systematize and spread knowledge in order to train professionals and citizens who can become involved in the transformation and development of the society they live in.
The UFG’s administrative center is located in Goiânia, the capital of the state of Goiás in the Midwest region of Brazil, approximately 125 miles from Brasília, Brazil’s capital. The UFG has nearly 17000 enrolled students including undergraduation and graduation.
